Welcome to our High Country Journeys newsletter.August 2010

We are a getting through winter fairly quickly. The daylight hours are increasing  even though Canterbury has had a lot of overcast dreary weather and a reasonable amount of rain.

We have good bookings for next season. The season being January to April 2011. We have a number of single vehicles already booked who are looking for another vehicle to team up with. If anyone else is looking at booking for next season and has a small time frame for start dates it would pay to get your date secured.  March seems to be our really busy month so if you are a March 2011 booking get your dates sorted as soon as you can.

On the 27th February  2011we have a chauffeured trip organized. We have a group of people who do not want to drive themselves and this gives them the opportunity to still get out and enjoy the high country. We can take more people if there is anyone else who might be interested in coming on a chauffeured trip. We will pick you up in Christchurch and deliver you back to Christchurch

In January all the little native plants are flowering and it is one of my favourite times for travelling through the High Country. In this day and age January is not necessarily a hot month and being school holidays does not generally affect our trip as you are off the beaten track. Might need to give some thought to bookings after the trip if you are staying in Central Otago for a few days after the trip. However when you pay  your deposit I send you some brcohures on Central Otago which help you see what is available.

We have had so many fantastic comments from our 2010 guests  who have loved their journey. They have enjoyed the 4x4 tracks and their hosts each night. It gives Mike and I a lot of pleasure to know that our trip is right up with peoples expectations.

Most people  comment that they did not think that they would get so far back into the high country, with all the fantastic scenery,  and that the tracks are challenging without being scary. Most of our bookings are taking the opportunity to do the extra day at the beginning of the trip.

Last summer we had a reporter from The Press come and do part of the trip, check out the story by clicking here

Later this month Mike and I are going down south to visit some of our hosts and check out some of our tracks in preparation for the summer. Our Central Otago hosts are getting busier and busier with their bookings for the Rail Trail and we have had to find some more hosts for our trips.

Kind Regards

Mike and Karen and family
