High Country Journey’s is a weeklong, fully catered self drive 4x4 journey that takes you into the heart of the South Island High Country,  through a network of station tracks, from Canterbury to Central Otago. You will reach over 1700 metres above sea level, experience unparalleled scenery from river valleys to lofty mountains and crystal clear lakes.

This is not a tag-a-long 4WD tour, your hosts Mike and Karen Meares will provide you with a ‘Journey Manual’, which you use to guide yourself in your own 4WD (or hired). You can choose your own start dates, travel at your own pace, you are not lumped with large groups of strangers and you can gain access to remote tracks, some only available to High Country Journeys.

With High Country Journeys you get more tracks, less on road travelling, more information on the areas you travel through and more accommodation on high country stations than with any other tour.  You get this becasue High Country Journey’s is developed and run by retired High Country farmers, Mike and Karen Meares who are the original creators of this self-drive, self-guided concept.  Many guests comment it is their personal touch and attention to detail that makes this tour standout.
